How did we come to feel separate from the life around us? This chapter begins with the living garden and the intelligence expressed through living organisms. Gary then considers how a sense of “I” develops, and how names, roles and beliefs can shape the way we experience ourselves.
The journey continues through the birth of the ego, the trap of labels and the pain of disconnection. Instead of treating our identity as the whole of who we are, Gary invites us to notice the awareness in which thoughts and feelings appear. The chapter closes with a reminder that Divine Awareness is always present.
These ideas form part of Gary’s personal spiritual model of reality. You are invited to reflect on them in your own experience. There is no need to rush: pause between scenes and allow each thought to settle.
