About Gary Eagle

Welcome. My name is Gary Eagle, and like you, I have a story. But the heart of my work is not Gary and his egoic story. It is who I truly am, and who you really are.

The foundation of my work · Begin here

Gary’s Model of Reality

My model begins with God before the universe: Divine Awareness, complete in being and unlimited in power. From this foundation, explore consciousness, mind, body, the ego and the observer—and what it means to allow God to live through you.

God before the universe

To understand my model, we must begin before the idea of a separate person, and before the universe itself. God is not an object inside creation, or a power standing outside an independently existing world. God is Divine Awareness: the reality within which everything exists. God’s power is unlimited. Nothing can exist outside the whole of what is.

Divine Awareness is complete in the never-ending Now. Bodies move, forms change and thoughts appear, yet the actuality of being never departs from the present. The past is remembered now; the future is imagined now. Neither memory nor anticipation takes us outside the reality in which it appears.

When I describe creation through an opening and an immediate fulfilment, I am using our limited vocabulary to describe the limitless. This is a movement of divine attention within awareness, requiring no effort from God. It does not mean that God becomes deficient, loses His power, or waits for completeness to return.

One reality, understood through different aspects

The words below describe relationships within one living reality. They are not separate substances, and they do not place any part of life beyond God.

Awareness, consciousness, mind and body

Awareness is immediate knowing. Local consciousness is the particular experience through which life is encountered. The mind interprets, remembers, imagines and thinks. The body is the living form through which sensing and action occur.

The body is God in form. Your hands, eyes and ears are not outside Divine Awareness. The distinction between awareness and form does not divide reality into a spiritual part that belongs to God and a physical part that does not.

The person and the imagined separate self

There is an ordinary person called Gary, with a body, a history and responsibilities. The ego adds an imagined independent owner: the story of a separate self assembled from remembered states and imagined futures.

A film on a television helps explain the distinction. The television is real; the represented drama is not literally happening inside it. In the same way, the mind’s story can absorb our attention without becoming a separate reality or limiting God’s awareness of what actually is.

The observer and the Third Voice

The observer notices the thought, feeling or personal story rather than becoming entirely absorbed in it. The persona can then be seen as something observed.

The Third Voice is deliberate speech of the mind, addressed to the familiar person by name: “Gary, notice what is happening now.” It remains a voice of the mind. Its purpose is to bring attention into the present, allow the instruction to finish, and leave space for quiet awareness to guide the body and mind.

Surrender and living from awareness

Surrender is the release of the imagined claim that a separate self is the source and controller of life. It does not abandon care, responsibility or action. It allows the living body and mind to respond to what awareness reveals now.

The telephone analogy describes our receptivity: incessant thinking can occupy our attention like a busy line. The apparent obstruction belongs to our attention; it does not block God or reduce His unlimited power. As the inner story falls quiet, Divine Awareness can find expression through listening, honest speech, kind action and ordinary life.

The complete film and illustrated book develop each aspect step by step, beginning with the foundation rather than with personhood.

The person called Gary

I was born in Durban, South Africa, in 1958. My life has included judo, mechanical engineering, artistic work and many years of spiritual enquiry. I explored different traditions and practices while asking who we are beneath the names, roles and thoughts through which we describe ourselves.

Those experiences are part of my story. I share them as the background to this work, rather than as its foundation. The invitation is to look directly at the life that is present now, and recognise what remains when the personal story is no longer claiming the centre.

I now share this understanding through illustrated books, films, contemplations and teaching. My writing and original background music accompany the films on this site.
